Bear Head Energy

Bear Head Energy is actively developing a world scale clean energy project. Nova Scotia’s unique geographical characteristics give the region the potential to become one of the most productive green hydrogen and ammonia development locations in the world.

Bear Head Energy brings together the key elements necessary for successful project development.

PROJECT

Bear Head Energy is planning to develop, construct and operate a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production, storage & loading facility located in the Point Tupper Industrial Park on the Strait of Canso on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The project is permitted up to 2 gigawatts of electrolyzer capacity and is expected to be developed in phases.

LOCATION

The Strait of Canso is Eastern Canada’s deepest year-round ice-free port and has short shipping distances to key European and U.S. energy markets. In addition to $130 million already spent on civil engineering and construction, Point Tupper offers significant existing infrastructure with ample fresh water and salt cavern storage resources nearby.

COMMUNITY

New projects require strong local stakeholder support. Bear Head Energy has a rich history of engagement with the Strait of Canso Region and Mi'kmaq communities for nearly two decades, and we will continue to seek their support, input, and participation as we develop a project which we believe will bring material economic benefits to the region.

REGULATORY

The Bear Head Project is one of the only fully permitted green hydrogen and ammonia production sites in North America.  The project holds the approvals and permits in place necessary for construction, resulting in a significant advantage for expeditious project development and execution of a green hydrogen and ammonia facility.

MANAGEMENT

Our seasoned team has deep experience in all aspects of project development, including design, regulatory, commercial and project finance. The majority of the management team has a deep history with the project and is well-equipped to develop the project through operations.
